Far Horizons, Wide Sky (2019)

Duration: 14'

Instrumentation: String Quartet and Wind Quintet

Premiered May 19, 2019 by the Cascade Quartet and Chinook Winds, with Grant Harville, conductor.

"My land is the land of far horizons, of the wide sky." This is a line from Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, one of my favorite                                   books, and since I've moved out west, it's come to my mind many times. This composition does indeed have some references,                                     subtle and otherwise, to Great Falls and the surrounding wide-open spaces. But music has a way of wandering where it wants                                   to go, and I was happy to let it. Mostly the piece is just a thank you to the nine musicians who perform our Chamber Music                                       Series and do so much for our music community.
